Quick Facts about Jute :
- natural Jute is 100% biodegradable
- is a long, soft vegetable fibre that can be spun into coarse, strong threads
- grows quickly and abundantly and has very low environmental impact
- used in many ways since ancient times
- also called Hessian or Burlap
- can be used in a variety of forms : Raw or Laminated
Raw Jute
It is 100% biodegradable and has the lowest possible environmental impact.
We treat our Jute with Vegetable Starch during production to ensure it looks and feels great when made up in to a bag.
The starch gives a nice 'structured' feel to the fabric.
Laminated Jute
Laminated Jute looks exactly like Raw Jute on the outside and has an additional thin layer of Polypropylene (PP) applied to the inside of the bag to stiffen and protect the natural fibres which creates a really structured, solid, long-lasting bag.
The lamination of Jute adds about 10% to the cost and it will extend the life of the bag almost indefinitely.
When times comes to discard the bag, the PP layer can be removed which leaves to completely biodegradable Jute bag.
Fabric Colour Options?
Natural Jute is light brown, however we can also dye Jute to your exact PMS colour. This is easy to do and only adds about 15% to the cost.
Printing on Jute?
Jute can be easily screen printed – we suggest up to 3 colours – which can be matched exactly to any PMS reference.
Jute does have quite a coarse texture and therefore the most successful design on Jute will be bold and simple.
Fine lines and detail may be corrupted by the natural (and variable) texture of the fibres and is not recommended.
