About Recycled Canvas Bags

Bag People Recycled Canvas Fabric Guide (PDF Download)
Can using Recycled Fabric be economical?
Yes – for once it can actually be LESS expensive to do the right thing for the environment.
Bags made of recycled Canvas are CHEAPER than bags made of new canvas when the quantity is over 20,000 units.
But is Recycled Canvas all rough and messy?
No – the recycling process takes the cotton waste right back to fibres which are then roved, spun and woven into canvas which is almost as smooth and pristine as new fabric.
So what’s the catch?
Only that you need to be ordering at least 5,000 bags to use Recycled Canvas and that it can sometimes be difficult to make in bright colours.
The natural beige colour of Canvas is the simplest and cheapest option.
Does the recycling process use large amounts of power or chemicals?
Not at all – the fabric waste is collected from off-cuts from the textile industry and from post-consumer waste, then pre-sorted into colours before being broken down mechanically (using a rotary cutter).
The fibres are then roved and spun into yarn for weaving in just the same way as new yarn is woven.
Because colours are pre-sorted there is absolutely no dyeing, bleaching or chemical processing required.
What fabric weights are available in Recycled Canvas?
At this stage, it is still not possible to make very fine cotton out of recycled fibres, therefore we only recommend using recycled fibres for 8oz fabric weight and above.
What bag styles can be made in Recycled Canvas?
Pretty much any size and any style – please call us to discuss your project
What is the percentage of recycled content?
The fabric contains 100% recycled material, the vast majority of which is cotton. It is sometimes necessary to add a small percentage of P.E.T. during the manufacturing process to lengthen the reclaimed fibres for roving. When this is necessary we use Recycled P.E.T..
Therefore we can always promise that the fabric is 100% recycled.
Can Recycled Canvas be printed?
Yes, we can use exactly the same print methods on recycled canvas as we us eon new canvas (screen print, sublimation, heat transfer).
